The Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Research Scientist with project management experience to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and managing emergency medicine population health and health services projects, with a focus on ensuring successful completion of extramurally funded research projects with diverse teams. The position will be primarily based in Dr. Michelle Lin’s and Dr. Maame Yaa Yiadom’s labs conducting NIH-funded research to improve emergency care delivery, outcomes, and health equity. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research that aims to improve emergency medical care and population health outcomes.

The successful candidate must be technically rigorous, possess exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail and have a track-record of excellence, innovation, and productivity in research. Further training beyond the postdoctoral training is desirable. This is a hybrid/ remote position starting as soon as possible. Experience with study design, statistical inference/biostatistics, and independent data analysis skills are required. Experience with clinical billing claims data, machine learning, informatics, AI, and grant writing is attractive.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the design and implementation of quantitative research studies related to emergency medicine and population health.
  • Oversee statistical analyses of complex data sets using appropriate methodologies and software.
  • Interpret and communicate research findings to diverse audiences, including healthcare professionals, policymakers, and the general public.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and execute project plans, ensuring timely completion and delivery of project milestones.
  • Train and supervise staff, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and research assistants.
  • Contribute to grant writing to support ongoing and future research initiatives.
  • Overseeing the development of study protocols and data use agreements, including coordinating regulatory approval from the institutional review boards to assure regulatory compliance.
  • Coordinating scientific activities, scheduling meetings, and developing agendas for meetings.
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and assign work to others.
  • Ability to take initiative and ownership of projects.

CORE DUTIES:

The candidate will support department faculty, trainees, and students with varying levels of experience with research to design and plan studies, data collection and data management towards analysis and publication of results. This work can involve the use of administrative data sets, primarily collected data, national/global data registries, and electronic health record data. They will also provide data analysis and visualization support to the department’s Business Intelligence and Quality Improvement Analyst.

The candidate will work with faculty, data analysis staff, and trainees in a collaborative team science fashion offering mentorship through participation. They will supervise the work of departmental research data analysts available to support data management, the conduct of study analyses, and co-preparation of manuscripts for results publication in the literature while collaborating with the departments professional medical editing team to advance faculty and trainee growth in scientific writing. They will also participate in departmental works-in-progress sessions providing direct and indirect feedback on a range of projects.

The Center for Biostatistics and Epidemiology (CBE) at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine (LKSOM) at Temple University seeks to recruit a Research Informatics scientist/faculty at the levels of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. The new faculty member will carry a tenure-track or non-tenure-track faculty appointment in LKSOM within the Department of Biomedical Education and Data Sciences. The CBE provides critical support for clinical, translational, and basic research at LKSOM.
